Software Implementation • • Full-time
Are you a software engineer (a.k.a. developer) looking for new challenges? Do you love algorithms? Do you have the ambition to be part of a team of highly skilled engineers in Copenhagen? Then you might be the one we are looking for to join our team!
Key about us
The Obex team in Keylane builds financial advisory products that help people realizing their dreams. Our products are used by most banks and pension funds in Denmark, and in short, they are used to calculate holistic 360° as-is and to-be overviews of a household’s economy. The products may help finance a dream trip around the World, or significantly increase a family’s disposable income during their
retirement. That’s what we call improvement of quality of life, right there.
As of this writing, Obex employs around 40 competent, social and enthusiastic developers, business analysts, and testers.
Key about your role
In your role as software engineer, you will be part a multidisciplinary team of business analysts, testers and engineers, and be responsible for development of our highly capable calculation kernel that constitutes the core of our entire business. The calculation kernel does two things: First, it implements most of the Danish tax and benefit legislation, and can therefore calculate both expected taxes, social benefits and a bunch of other key figures for a household. This is a difficult task, both due to the complexity of the legislation (we have experts that can help you with that), and due to the need for it to respond fast.
Second, the calculation kernel implements automated improvements for a household’s economy. That is: let it sit and spin for a while, and out comes a set of suggested optimizations for increasing the household’s disposable income, just by re-arranging and doing things smarter. It’s almost magic.
Underneath is a great deal of hardcore mathematical optimization, algorithms and heuristics, and an important part of your role will be to develop this part.
The calculation kernel will be your primary home, workwise. We have a long list of ambitions to be lifted here, and you will be a significant contributor to these ambitions too.
Around the potent calculation kernel sits a newly written microservice based platform, with little to none technical debt and awesome architecture: We’ve held an insane focus on clean code since we decided to start from scratch, and build our new advisory platform from the ground up in the autumn 2019, with beautiful responsibility splits among components and layers; no pollution of customer specific code in the general product; a high degree of nicely organized data validation; multiple levels of caching; and a nice development setup with continuous integration based on Jenkins. A few buzz words from our stack: C# / .net core guarded with FxCop and StyleCop, fluentvalidation.net for data validations, EventFlow as event sourcing engine, redis as distributed cache, automapper for, well, mappings, react/redux in the frontend, Docker/Kubernetes/Openshift for hosting, both locally and in production. The platform surrounding the calculation kernel will be your second home.
Key about your team
We believe that the best argument should always win, independent of job title, so we look for an engineer that thrives with being an active part of solution design discussions and in code reviews (we use Bitbucket intensively for that). The thing about arguments is also true for processes: if you think we can optimize a process or a way of working, please share your ideas with the team. If you have a good case, we try to do it your way. In general, we try to be pragmatic: we use many elements from SCRUM but are not fanatic about it. Sometimes we use Kanban, when this makes better sense. If things do not make sense, we change it.
Generally, in your role, you will have a mindset of solving problems as you go and fixing the necessary dependencies yourself in order to solve a given task. Therefore, it is crucially that you are hungry to learn, both regarding to technologies in every aspect of the stack, and regarding financial domain knowledge. As a reward, you will be (or become) a pretty capable developer – we will support you all the way, with all the needed courses, education and learning necessary. (We use Pluralsight a lot).
We imagine that you:
- Have a sharp experience and knowledge of C#
- Love driving initiatives
- Have high ambitions for both yourself, your team and our code
- You are a team player who helps your colleagues, just as they help you
